Coxsackie #5

It has been one hell of a week so far. Monday we were at the pediatrician with Jesse, he was given antibiotics. Tuesday we get a call from daycare saying that one of the little girls in the infant room (with Jesse) has the Coxsackie virus (AKA Hand, mouth, foot disease). *** DISCLAIMER: This is not the same as the foot-and-mouth disease found in cattle.***

And of course Jesse had the same symptoms as the little girl in his class. SOOOO, I immediately called the pediatrician's office. The nurse spoke with the doctor and we stopped the antibiotics immediately (as they will do no good for the virus). They said to call on Wednesday to give an update on Jesse's condition.

When I got home Tuesday evening Jesse was head to toe in little red dots (kinda like the measles). Needless to say I was not happy. When my sister stopped by I had her run in and take a look at Jesse. We both agreed I needed to call the doctor. The doctor on call said this is common for Coxsackie and not to worry, but to call my regular pediatrician in the morning.

So here we are Wednesday morning. Jesse is at daycare and is doing fine. I contact the pediatrician's office and give an update. OMG! they think it could possibly be Chicken Pox. So now, I have to call daycare to have them isolate Jesse until I can get there. Chuck can't go get Jesse because he's never had chicken pox before. Needless to say I am panicking at this point. I just started a new job and my son could possibly have the chicken pox.

I get to daycare and Jesse is just jumping like crazy in the jumperoo having a great time.

We get to Dr. Kessler's office and the contagious room's door is locked so I have to call them to come unlock the door. Because they weren't sure if Jesse had chicken pox we couldn't risk going into the normal waiting room.

A half hour later the doctor comes in.......YEAHHHH! Of course I had just gotten Jesse to fall asleep. He'd be crying for the better part of the 30 minutes.

The doctor confirmed that Jesse DOES NOT have chicken pox. YEAHHHHHH! I was so relieved. However, he does have a contagious form of the Coxsackie virus. It's not Mambo #5.....it's Coxsackie #5. Just great! This means he cannot go back to daycare until the rash is gone. Hopefully that will be before the end of the weekend.

Luckily I have a husband who hoards his time off at work and can take off the rest of the week to be home with the baby. AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH the joys of motherhood.
